Neurotelemetry

Frequently Asked Questions?

CortiCare has made continuous EEG monitoring a simple process. But we understand it can be a daunting process to implement.

At a minimum it involves a multi-departmental undertaking involving multiple clinical discipline to implement the process and do it right. We also know that every hospital is different with unique drivers and unique patient populations and severity that will dictate the intensity of the monitoring and resources required to accomplish that level of survalliance.

What is good to know is that once you have made the decision to do cEEG neurotelemetry the process to start monitoring is simple.

Here are a few of the more common questions about starting our monitoring services.  We hope this FAQ page will encourage you to take the step to give us a call and find out more about remote monitoring for your hospital.

Thanks for looking.  We look forward to talking to you soon.

What do I need to get started?

First you need patients to monitor.  Then a Service Contract – that’s it. No minimum patient volume or start-up costs. We can use your EEG system (any brand) or we can provide one.

When are the technologists available and where are they located?

Our technologists are located throughout the US, and are available remotely on-call for any amount of monitoring time - as little as 4 hours on a weekend night, or full 24/7 coverage.  The techs are typically monitoring within 30 minutes of your phone call to CortiCAre.

How does CortiCare connect to our EEG system? What if the Internet connection is lost?

CortiCare uses (and provides to the hospital) a highly sophistocated and secure HIPAA compliant interface software. This technology allows point-to-point remote viewing over a regular internet connection.  We work closely with your IT department to obtain approvals and look at other connection options. If… the connection with the Internet is ever lost the EEG system will continue recording, and our technologist will review any data not monitored once reconnected. No patieint data is ever lost on the EEG system!

Who can remotely connect to the EEG system and how do they get connected?

The CortiCare monitoring technologist, the reading neurologist and any hospital authorized clinician can view the patient data on the EEG at the same time.  In fact, our technologists can monitor up to 4 patients simultaneously and handle remote conections with physicians.  Any in-bound conection from a physician or clinician to see the patient data with the correct dynamic password and an Internet connected device - Mac, PC, smart phone or tablets.

What happens when a potential seizure is identified?

The Tech will immediately call the reading neurologist, inform them of the findings, and ask if they want to connect to see the patient data to make a further interpretation and recommendation.
