Neurotelemetry

Despite being one of the oldest tests available, EEG remains the only neurodiagnostic procedure that provides a continuous record of cerebral function over long periods. Recent advances in cEEG analysis make real-time bedside monitoring of brain activity possible so that neurologic status can be assessed and tracked as easily as cardiopulmonary status.  

 

CortiCare's technology and monitoring infrastructure makes neurotelemetry - or remote cEEG monitoring, possible, opening the door for true, real-time, continuous brain telemetry at any hospital with need to monitor neurocritical care patients.

What is Neurotelemetry?

 

Telemetry is the monitoring of the patient's cerebral vital signs and the transmission of the signals or data from one electronic unit to another by radio waves or by other means using a device that provides real-time measurement of a physiologic data for various lengths of time.

 

Neurotelemetry is the real-time monitoring of long-term video EEG in the ICU and other areas of the hospital by R.EEG Ts or CLTMs technologists with oversight 

assessment and intervention by the neurologist.

How is it done?

 

CortiCare provides telemetry services that utilize cloud-based technology to continuously monitor video EEG at the patient bedside from remote locations. 

 

We use the existing hospital equipment and link remotely to that device to provide an alert for the reading neurologist of any remarkable events within a 30-minute window.  
 

Why is it important?

 

20% of all patients in stupor or coma are having nonconvulsive seizures and nonconvulsive status epilepticus. 

 

The discovery of NCSz and NCSE are treatable cerebral emergencies that are associated with high 

mortality rates.


The reason that it is important to identify nonconvulsive seizures and non-convulsive status is that both discoveries represent treatable 'emergencies' that are associated with high mortality.
